Book Haul

All the books! I started reading again at the end of 2020 and so in January 2021, I started buying more books. Ebooks mostly because they are amazing and for the price, you can save a lot of money. For my first book haul on my blog, I will show all the books I brought in January 2021. Some of the books were free and some of them I paid for. I have brought books from a variety of genres, so hopefully, there is something here you would enjoy. I will also put a short description of the book which I have gotten from Amazon so you can learn a little more about the book. I read almost all of my ebooks on my Kindle Paperwhite which I highly recommend.

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire NorthThe First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, Claire North, January 2021 Book Haul, Book Haul, Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon Kindle Books, Haul, Reading, Books, Cozy, Hygge, Read, Kirsten Jonora Renfroe, January 2021 Book Haul, Books

Harry August is on his deathbed. Again.

No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes.

Until now.

As Harry nears the end of his eleventh life, a little girl appears at his bedside. “I nearly missed you, Doctor August,” she says. “I need to send a message.”

This is the story of what Harry does next, and what he did before, and how he tries to save a past he cannot change and a future he cannot allow.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed, Lori Gottlieb, January 2021 Book Haul, Book Haul, Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Amazon Kindle Books, Haul, Reading, Books, Cozy, Hygge, Read, Kirsten Jonora Renfroe, January 2021 Book Haul, Books

One day, Lori Gottlieb is a therapist who helps patients in her Los Angeles practice. The next, a crisis causes her world to come crashing down. Enter Wendell, the quirky but seasoned therapist in whose office she suddenly lands. With his balding head, cardigan, and khakis, he seems to have come straight from Therapist Central Casting. Yet he will turn out to be anything but.

As Gottlieb explores the inner chambers of her patients’ lives — a self-absorbed Hollywood producer, a young newlywed diagnosed with a terminal illness, a senior citizen threatening to end her life on her birthday if nothing gets better, and a twenty-something who can’t stop hooking up with the wrong guys — she finds that the questions they are struggling with are the very ones she is now bringing to Wendell.

With startling wisdom and humor, Gottlieb invites us into her world as both clinician and patient, examining the truths and fictions we tell ourselves and others as we teeter on the tightrope between love and desire, meaning and mortality, guilt and redemption, terror and courage, hope and change.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is revolutionary in its candor, offering a deeply personal yet universal tour of our hearts and minds and providing the rarest of gifts: a boldly revealing portrait of what it means to be human, and a disarmingly funny and illuminating account of our own mysterious lives and our power to transform them.

Before the War in Heaven, before she was Lilly the Seer, heroine of the Battle of Surel, central figure of the legendary Children of Eternity, she was Lilly of the Valley, the only child of Chin Ho and Ae Cha Kyan. She was a most beautiful child, and the youngest and by far the most dangerous and feared enemy of the communist state of North Korea. She was a special child with a God given gift of healing and prophecy. She possessed knowledge and wisdom far beyond her six years of life on Earth. She spoke of faith and hope, of a loving God who sent His only Son into the world to rescue its people. But in a nation where the only god was the nation’s beloved leader she was a threat. She had to be removed to a place where her words and deeds would be hidden from the world. She and her mother had to be sent to the hard labor camp of Yodok, a place from which no one ever escaped, and few returned. Indeed, few survived more than a few years in this hell on Earth. But the voice of God’s messenger cannot be silenced, even when thrown into the pit. She was the child poised to topple a dynasty of evil. This is her story.

Juliet is failing to juggle motherhood and her stalled-out dissertation on confessional poetry when her husband, Michael, informs her that he wants to leave his job and buy a sailboat. With their two kids—Sybil, age seven, and George, age two—Juliet and Michael set off for Panama, where their forty-four foot sailboat awaits them.

The initial result is transformative; the marriage is given a gust of energy, Juliet emerges from her depression, and the children quickly embrace the joys of being feral children at sea. Despite the stresses of being novice sailors, the family learns to crew the boat together on the ever-changing sea.  The vast horizons and isolated islands offer Juliet and Michael reprieve – until they are tested by the unforeseen.

Sea Wife is told in gripping dual perspectives: Juliet’s first person narration, after the journey, as she struggles to come to terms with the life-changing events that unfolded at sea, and Michael’s captain’s log, which provides a riveting, slow-motion account of these same inexorable events, a dialogue that reveals the fault lines created by personal history and political divisions.

Sea Wife is a transporting novel about marriage, family and love in a time of unprecedented turmoil. It is unforgettable in its power and astonishingly perceptive in its portrayal of optimism, disillusionment, and survival.

When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway’s latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the bestselling crime writer for years, she’s intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan’s traditional formula has proved hugely successful. So successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job.

Conway’s latest tale has Atticus Pünd investigating a murder at Pye Hall, a local manor house. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but the more Susan reads, the more she’s convinced that there is another story hidden in the pages of the manuscript: one of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition, and murder.

Masterful, clever, and relentlessly suspenseful, Magpie Murders is a deviously dark take on vintage English crime fiction in which the reader becomes the detective.
