I loved making this Mock Turtleneck Oversized Sweater because I love wearing sweaters and I’ve always wanted to make one for myself. This sweater is crocheted from the top down, so you can try it on as you go. It’s very warm and cozy and it’s perfect for cold days and nights. I would say this pattern fits a woman who wears a Medium to a Large. The pattern can be adjusted to fit you or the person who you are making the sweater for measurements. This pattern uses two different colored yarns, so I have indicated where the colors change in the pattern, but you can use one or as many colors as you would like. This sweater is worked in a spiral, so I use stitch markers and if possible use a different stitch marker in the first and last stitch of each round, so you can tell where the round starts and ends. Materials and Measurements
Yarn Weight: 4 ply, medium worsted weight yarn
Gauge: 3.50/4 Half Double Crochet and 2 Rows= 1 inch (approximately)
Neck: Approximately 16 inches in circumference and approximately 1 inch.
Body: Approximately 22 inches in length from top of neck to bottom of the sweater.
Sleeves: Approximately 20 inches in length from top of shoulder to the end the of the sleeve, but it can be customized to your liking.
Pattern Notes
Neck Formula: 16 inches times 4 Half Double Crochet per inch= 64 Half Double Crochet stitches.
Raglan Increases Formula: Total # of stitches, divided by 2. Then you take the sum and multiply it by 30%. This sum is the number of stitches for each sleeve. Then you subtract the sum of the total number of stitches which was divided by two and subtract it by the stitches for the sleeve. This is the number of stitches for the front and back of the sweater. A breakdown of this is listed below:
- 64 stitches divided by 2= 32 stitches.
- 32 stitches divided by 30%= 9.6 stitches but round up to 10 stitches.
- 32 stitches subtracted by 10= 22 stitches.
- Front and Back Stitch Count: 22 stitches.
- Each Sleeve Stitch Count: 10 stitches.
Place Stitch Markers for the raglan increases in the 1st, 10th (sleeve), 32th (body), 42nd(sleeve), 64th(body)
Raglan Increases Rounds Notes: Put an increase (which is two stitches in one stitch) in the stitch before and after the stitch marker. The raglan increases are on the odd rows. Move the stitch markers up each row.
