I loved making this hat because I wanted a hat with a lot of texture and something that will be warm in the winter. It’s also a snug fit and it’s extra cozy. This hat is worked in a spiral, so I use a stitch marker to mark the last stitch of the round. Materials and Measurements
Yarn Weight: 4 ply, medium worsted weight yarn
Hat Length: 9 inches (approximately)
Circumference: 18 inches (approximately)
The wrong side of the hat will be facing you, so when you’re done turn the hat inside out and the hat is complete.
Stitches Used:
- Magic Circle: Here a great Youtube video on how to do a magic circle.
- Half Double Crochet
- Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (repeat this two more times for a total of 7 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.
- Single Crochet
- Slip stitch
Pattern
Round 1: Make a magic circle, 10 half double crochet stitches in the magic circle. (Pull circle closed.) (10 Half double crochet stitches in this round.) (Place a stitch marker in the last stitch of this round.)
Round 2: 2 Half double crochet stitches in each stitch around. (20 Half double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 3: *1 Half double crochet stitch in the next stitch, 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch* Repeat * to * all the way around for a total of 30 half double crochet stitches. (30 Half double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 4: *1 Half double crochet stitch in each of the next two stitches, 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch* Repeat * to * all the way around for a total of 40 half double crochet stitches. (40 Half double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 5: *1 Half double crochet stitch in each of the next three stitches, 2 half double crochet stitches in the next stitch* Repeat * to * all the way around for a total of 50 half double crochet stitches. (50 Half double crochet stitches in this round.) (The diameter is approximately 5 inches for the crown of the hat.)
Round 6-Round 7: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in the front loop of each stitch around. (50 Half Double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 8-Round 9: *1 Puff stitch in the next stitch, 1 Single crochet stitch in the next stitch,* Repeat * to * tall the wast around. (50 stitches in this round.)
Round 10-Round 11: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in the front loop of each stitch around. (50 Half Double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 12-Round 13: *1 Puff stitch in the next stitch, 1 Single crochet stitch in the next stitch,* Repeat * to * tall the wast around. (50 stitches in this round.)
Round 14-Round 15: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in the front loop of each stitch around. (50 Half Double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 16-Round 17: *1 Puff stitch in the next stitch, 1 Single crochet stitch in the next stitch,* Repeat * to * tall the wast around. (50 stitches in this round.)
Round 18-Round 19: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in the front loop of each stitch around. (50 Half Double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 20-Round 21: *1 Puff stitch in the next stitch, 1 Single crochet stitch in the next stitch,* Repeat * to * tall the wast around. (50 stitches in this round.)
Round 22-Round 23: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in the front loop of each stitch around. (50 Half Double crochet stitches in this round.)
Round 24-Round 25: *1 Puff stitch in the next stitch, 1 Single crochet stitch in the next stitch,* Repeat * to * tall the wast around. (50 stitches in this round.)
Round 26-27: 1 Half Double crochet stitch in each stitch around. (50 Single crochet stitches in this round.) (Approximately 9 inches in height.) (Approximately 20 inches in circumference.)
Round 28: 1 Single crochet in next stitch, 1 slip stitch in the next st. (Approximately 9 inches in height.) (Approximately 18 inches in circumference.)
End: Cut yarn and weave in end. Turn hat inside out and the hat is complete.
